How Toyota leases work: fees, mileage, deposits, and lease end
What Toyota Financial Services charges, which mileage plans it offers, how multiple security deposits work, and what your options are at the end of a Toyota lease.
By LeaseGuru.aiUpdated 6 min read
A Toyota lease is written by Toyota Financial Services (TFS), the captive lender that also finances Lexus through Lexus Financial Services. Where you live decides which Toyota finance arm you deal with: dealers in the Southeast use Southeast Toyota Finance instead, with a lower acquisition fee and a higher overage rate.
Most of what moves a Toyota lease payment is the same as any other brand: selling price, residual, money factor, and fees. What is specific to Toyota is the fee schedule, the mileage plans, the multiple security deposit program, and the lease-end rules, which are what this guide covers.
Figures below come from toyota.com and toyotafinancial.com as recorded in LeaseGuru's by-brand guides. Advertised terms change every month, so treat them as the baseline to check against your worksheet, not a quote.
TLDR Quick Guide
- Acquisition fee is $750 in most TFS regions and $695 in Southeast Toyota Finance states (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC).
- Toyota.com 2026 lease examples assume 10,000 miles a year (a Tacoma example uses 12,000); standard TFS mileage plans are 15,000 or 12,000.
- Return overage is $0.15 a mile on TFS examples, $0.18 in the Southeast.
- Up to nine additional security deposits can lower the payment, except in New York.
- Disposition fee is up to $350, waived if you replace the car with a new or certified Toyota or Lexus through TFS or LFS.
Who writes a Toyota lease
Toyota and Lexus leases are financed by Toyota Financial Services and Lexus Financial Services, operating under Toyota Motor Credit Corporation; leases may be owned by Toyota Lease Trust. In Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, Toyota dealers work with Southeast Toyota Finance, a regional finance arm that is not TFS.
That split matters because the acquisition fee and overage rate differ between the two. Check which lender is named on your worksheet before comparing offers across state lines.
Toyota lease fees
- Acquisition fee: $750 on 2026 Toyota.com regional examples (RAV4, Tacoma), shown as due at signing rather than rolled into the capitalized cost. $695 on Southeast Toyota Finance offers.
- Disposition fee: up to $350 at turn-in. TFS waives it if you lease or finance a new or certified Toyota or Lexus through a participating dealer and TFS or LFS within 30 days before or after the return, or if you have had three or more TFS/LFS accounts.
- New Jersey: TFS warns that customers who originated a lease in New Jersey may be billed the disposition fee before the waiver is applied.
Toyota lease mileage
TFS describes a standard lease at 15,000 miles a year and a low-mileage lease at 12,000. A separate Low Mileage Lease program covers new Toyotas driven fewer than 10,000 miles a year on 33 to 60 month terms. Advertised Toyota.com examples lean low: the 2026 RAV4 examples use 10,000 miles a year and the Tacoma example uses 12,000.
Return overage is $0.15 a mile on those examples, or $0.18 a mile on the Southeast RAV4 offer. If you know you drive more than the advertised allowance, price the extra miles into the lease at signing instead of paying overage at the end.
Multiple security deposits
On new and certified Toyota or Lexus vehicles leased through TFS or LFS, you can put down up to nine additional refundable security deposits at signing. TFS says additional deposits reduce the monthly payment but does not publish the money-factor reduction per deposit, so ask for the payment with and without them. The program is not available in New York. The unused balance is refunded at the end of the term, minus anything still owed for wear, mileage, or the disposition fee.
What happens at the end of a Toyota lease
TFS lists three end-of-term choices: buy the vehicle, lease another, or return it.
- Repeat customers: current lessees who lease or finance another Toyota through TFS within 30 days before or after termination get the disposition fee waived, one terminating lease per new qualifying contract.
- Buying out to a third party: the public TFS lease pages do not say whether a third-party dealer can buy out your lease. Ask TFS before you plan around it.
- Transferring early: TFS lists transfer of lease as an early-return option and says to call 800-874-8822 for criteria. No fee is published.
What to negotiate on a Toyota lease
The selling price is the main lever on any lease. Ask for the money factor in writing, convert it to an APR to sanity-check it, and compare the acquisition fee and due-at-signing amount line by line against the published figures above.

The only term range TFS publishes on its lease pages is for its Low Mileage Lease program: 33 to 60 months for new Toyotas driven fewer than 10,000 miles a year. The term on any given offer is shown on the Toyota.com regional example and on your worksheet.

Yes. Buying the vehicle is a published end-of-term choice with TFS. The public pages do not state whether a third-party dealer can complete the buyout, so confirm with TFS if you plan to sell the car through a dealer.
TFS lists transfer of lease as an early-return option and directs you to call 800-874-8822 for criteria. It does not publish a transfer fee or a yes-or-no for every account.
